Duke Leopold III of Austria (November 1, 1351 – July 9, 1386) from the Habsburg family, was Duke of Austria, Duke of Styria and Carinthia and Count of Tyrol.
The Battle of Sempach
During the 1360s Leopold administered Tyrol and the Habsburg Swabian territories. However, he pressed for greater participation in government and in 1379 obtained the division of the Habsburg lands from his brother, Duke Albrecht III: Leopold received Styria, Carinthia, Carniola, the Wendish March together with Tyrol and the Swabian territories. In 1386 Leopold III died in 1386 in the Battle of Sempach near Lucerne, while fighting a small-scale war against the Swiss confederates. After his death, however, the family fell victim to internal power struggles.

He was married, to Viridis Visconti
and had 6 childres, the best-known: William the Courteous - his successor,Leopold the Fat - future Duke of Further Austria, Ernest the Iron - future Duke of Inner Austria and Frederick of the Empty Pockets -future Duke of Further Austria.
