The Church of St. Peter and St. Paul in Mittenwald Bavaria Germany was first mentioned in 1315.
The symbol of Mittenwald is the painted church completed in 1746 with St. Peter and St. Paul as its patron saints. From 1734 to 1749, the current church was built by the Wessobrunn master builder Joseph Schmutzer and decorated with numerous, colorful frescoes by the Augsburg artist Matthäus Guenther.

The magnificent ceiling fresco in the nave shows the martyrdom and the glorification of the apostles. Particularly noteworthy are the Gothic crucifix in the Chapel of the Cross, the Madonna carved on the left side of the altar from the year 1520 and the guild rods on the benches.
